  • That technicians hold valid certification for the technique used
  • That the company holds UKAS accreditation for the technique used

As results are critical to the integrity of the equipment, it is also vital to know that these are accurate and traceable back to national standards, which is why accreditation is strongly recommended.  It is also important to note that ISO 9001 certification is not equivalent to UKAS accreditation (see here) with different technical competencies required to be demonstrated to produce valid and accurate data and results in compliance with the latter.  The UKAS website is an excellent tool to check the scope of the accredited services that a company offers.
